Update Failure Process Secure Update Failed - OS Driver Pack / Drivers for OS deployment version stuck at 0 now.

I have been updating a set of R520 servers and one it stuck where the OS Driver Pack / Drivers for OS Deployment are stuck at ZERO.

When updating on Linux no matter what flags are used the update gives the error:

Update Failure: Process Secure Update Failed

When trying both:

-bash-4.1# ./R520_Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Application_6MNTV_LN_14.11.02_A00.BIN -n -f -q

and

-bash-4.1# ./R520_Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Application_FXMYH_LN_15.02.12_A00.BIN -n -f -q

The error persists. (the -n -f switches didnt help, just tried with and without them).

What I did next was to go into the lifecycle controller on my R520 and have the Lifecycle controller download and install the OS driver firmware which was listed as version "0".

This ended up working (temporarily) and took about 5 minutes once the update started.

Then it showed the correct version (15.02.12) as "Current"

However, upon a cold restart, it fell back to version 0 and was back to being broken

This is should be addressed by Dell ASAP. I've tried all the usual tricks to get the OS driver pack firmware reinstalled and its stuck.

This problem started while running all the updates for the R520 on this ISO:

dell.app.box.com/BootableR520/1/4114974887

Seems like 15.02.12 is a bad update and bonks the OS drivers.

Others have been having trouble with M6xx servers and R7xx servers in another thread which is not being addressed.

All other firmwares on this R520 are current and seemingly working properly.

Will update post/thread with firmware manifest.

Any help getting this firmware issue straightened out is greatly appreciated.

My Client is running a R810 with 512 GB memory 32x (Crucial 16GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Server Memory Model CT16G3ERSLD4160B) with 4 x INTEL XEON E7-4860 PROCESSORS and ESXi 5 . We are getting CPU and Memory erros resulting in a purple screen. Could this be that this memory is incorrect ?

PCI Slot on PowerEdge VRTX

Hi,

I have a PowerEdge VRTX, and I need to connect a PCI card (old and custom made) but the server has only PCIE Slots.

I’ve tried PCIE to PCI adapters, but they need power from the server power supply and the VRTX doesn’t have any power cord from it power supply available to use.

Anyone can help me solve this issue?

PE R510 Memory config [MEMTEST Lane Failure]

I have a PE R510 with 32GB of memory running Win2008 Std with a single cpu.

  • I upgraded the OS to Enterprise
  • I added a second cpu
  • I replaced the 4x 8GB sticks of memory with 8x 16GB

On boot, the OS only can use 80GB of memory

I get MEMBIST failure on DIMM B3/B1/B4

MEMTEST Lane Failure detected on DIMM B1

any ideas what the cause is? The mobo? the memory? config? Thanks

These memory sticks are with the new cpu, and were never used before. I have tried moving the sticks and I have reseated them several times with the same problem.

Poweredge T410 BIOS

I updated the BIOS today on a PE T410, and when it rebooted it stated that it could not find a boot device.  Is there any way to boot to a live CD, and copy the data?  I have tried the Dell Support Live 2.2, but it did not see the storage controller.   Is there another version that will see, and load the controller?

Thanks,

Poweredge T320 RAM mixing questions

I have a T320 and some spare memory modules.

The T320 currently has 2 x 8GB (Samsung part no M393B1G70BH0-YK0)

This is actually confusing already since that RAM module has speed of 1600 MHz, but the idrac sais 1333 MHz, (***?) maybe anyone can clarify this? Is the idrac output wrong?

Can I, and if yes how, mix those two existing modules with:

- another 2 x 8GB (Samsung part no M393B1G70BH0-YK0)

- 2 x 4GB (Samsung part no M378B5273DH0-CH9)

- 2 x 32GB (DELL part no SNPM9FKFC/32G)

How is mixing memory in the poweredges in general?

Thanks for any help!

R530 issue: Timeout on multiple physical disks with H330 mini

I have a new R530 with 8 physical disks, all straight from Dell, 2x 120G SSD OS drives, 4x400G SSD VM/DB drives in raid 10, and 2 6TB in raid 1 for file storage and backups. We've just started to put it in use and are getting the following occasional items in the alert log on all 4 of the 400GB SSDs.

A call to Dell support told us we needed a different RAID controller and mostly just made me angry as we have very little running currently as we are migrating out of azure and only have 1 active VM. Any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated, driver and firmware appear to be up to date.

2011 DELL R910 - I want to add RAM. What size DIMMS can I use?

$

Hi guys,

As I mentioned in the title I want to add RAM.  Currently I have 32 4GB DIMMS, and this is not enough.  Also 4GB seems rather paltry these days when the price point on 16GB DIMMS is good.  My question:

Am I stuck with adding more 4GB DIMMS, or can I mix in some 16GB jammers?  Tell me what the best method is, and maybe add a part number for me if you would be so kind.

Thanks.

Hi,

the system does not boot anymore when plugging in the power cable.

* System: ubuntu 12.04 64 server

* BIOS v 1.1.0

* power cable unplug, wait 10 minutes, plug again: does not help

* error code on LED: 97 - cannot find this in the docs

* back LED shows blinking blue - no idea what that means

* History: after installing a fresh ubuntu 12.04 "shutdown -r" worked fine. After "shutdown -h" the system is in the above error and does not start any more.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

R730 Broadcom BCM5720 won't PXE

$

Hi,

I've got some R730 with some onboard Broadcom BCM5720 (4x1Gbps) that really don't like to PXE. On the DHCP server I can see the various requests and responses, but on the server itself it'll just hang, so I'll get something like:

CLIENT MAC ADDR: XX XX XX XX XX XX GUID: .....
DHCP..\

And at that point the spinning cursor will stop.

I've made sure that NIC1 is set to PXE and updated the all firmware. Whereas before after a few reboots it would eventually give in and work, I'm having no joy today.

Annoyingly I have some other R730 with onboard Intel and some R720 with what I presume to be pretty much the same onboard Broadcom and they both work fine!

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

Jamie

PE R710 optimal memory configuration

Hi, we need to upgrade memory on our R710s. Trying to find out the recommendations for the optimal  memory configuration for the 11th gen servers without dropping the memory speed. Came across  a doc dating back to 2009 telling that we can't go beyond 1 DIMM per channel for 2x RDIMMs without dropping the speed to 1066. I'm pretty sure after one of the BIOS updates the limit was changed from 1 to 2 DIMMs per channel. Can anybody confirm or share a more recent doc? Thanks in advance.

Idrac is misteriously going blank on R710

Hi Im not sure what is happening here, 2 days ago my Dell R710 went offline. Its a windows Server 2012 R2 machine. I went to my Idrac page and tried to login with my credentials. I tried all my passwords but had no luck. I wanted to remotely reboot my server but I couldn't, so I went into the data center and manually did it. I checked the Idrac config and noticed that the password was blank. This was very weird so i set a new password and tested it from a remote machine and i was able to login with no Issues.

This morning my server went offline again and I cant login. Its like the password was changed again.

I know I'm not going crazy but can anyone please shed some light on this?

PowerEdge M610 Collect Inventory problem

$

Hello,

I have a PowerEdge M610 in a M1000e chassis. Recently I upgraded memory and since M1000e didn't show the updated informations I enabled CSIOR in legacy lifecycle controller configuration. Nevertheless I noticed that in hardware inventory randomly some modules are reported incorrectly as 0 MB modules. The version of the IDRAC is 3.75 and the version of CMC is 5.10. At system level the M610 show always the correct amount of total memory. All memory test passed. It seems that something wrong happens during the collection of hardware components.

From the M1000e CMC sometimes the total memory reported changes: 28MB, 16MB or 32MB.

I get a PR11 message entering the lifecycle controller: Message PR11: Part Replacement license is not present, replacement action(s) will not be performed" but the replacement part highlighted in the PR1 I get just before the message PR11 changes: sometimes it talks about DIMM in slot A1, at the next reboot is the slot B5 and so on.

Someone can help me with this issue?

Thanks in Advance,
Davide

Dell Poweredge 840

Hello,

I have had a poweredge server for several years now running a small business. The server has never had any issues until the ram DIMMS were taken out and tried with an upgrade set. Once the new set was in the system does not power on or post AT ALL.

The pre fan in the power supply is constantly on as usual running at low rpm, and the status light on the front flashes amber. I have not been able to find anything in the manual either.

The only thing that changed was trying to upgrade/install different new ram, when the computer wouldn't turn on then, we re installed the old memory, but again if everything is plugged in it just flashes amber orange on the front. Pushing the power button countless times, it does nothing. Any suggestions? All the hardware is good, and the computer was just running...Raid is setup and all with a dual core on 1 gig of ram(4x lots 512mb)

DELL M610 Perc 6 and SSD compatability

Hi;

can I use Samsung Pro 850 SSD with M610 Blade? The samsung only shows 1.5 Gbps link speed, although its capable of 6.0 Gbps?

I had a raid 1 failure and threw a samsung Pro in with the oem drive and the volume had synch problems due to mismatch in link speed? OEM samsung shows 3.0Gbps link, but Samsung pro showed 1.5?

Replace the oem drive with another samsung pro and then both show 1.5Gbps.

Do I have to have EOM dell brand to get the SATA 2 (3.0Gbps) speeds?

Dell PowerEdge R710, Dual Xeon E5630, RAM upgrade: 12 x 2GB 1Rx8 UDIMMs won't POST

$

I'm upgrading a Dell R710 from single CPU to dual CPU with Xeon E5630 processors harvested from multiple R710 systems and combining into one. I have 18 2GB UDIMMs to play with, all from Dell configured R710 systems, but cannot get anything to POST beyond 3 sticks for each CPU.

I have read the technical guide and the following two more comprehensive guides:
Installing and Upgrading DDR3 Memory - Quick Reference Guide
Dell™ PowerEdge™ Servers 2009 - Memory - A Dell Technical White Paper

I have concluded from this and other research the following:
(1) The Xeon E5630 supports maximum memory speed of 1066MHz
(2) UDIMM maximum is 24GB which I assume I can split between the CPUs for 12GB each
(3) 2 DPC (DIMMs Per Channel), 3 Channels per CPU

But I cannot get this to work despite all the RAM working if I use 1 DPC for all 3 channels per CPU.

It should work according to this chart:

with DIMM 0 and DIMM 1 each SINGLE rank as indicated and populated according to this:

with 3 Channels Used, 2 DPC using A1, A2, A3 and A4, A5, A6 for CPU 1 and B1, B2, B3 and B4, B5, B6 for CPU 2.

The information gets a little scant about dual processors and think this may be where I'm hitting a limitation. How can I get 24GB of UDIMM running with dual CPUs?

A few simple newbie questions

I've been running Windows Home Server on an old Dell Zion (yeah--pretty pokey), I see Dell has a great deal on an I3 PowerEdge T110 II. I did a lot of poking around in the online docs and manuals, but have a few unanswered questions:

o Does the server have a built-in SATA controller? The manual shows 6 SATA connectors, but when I tried to configure the server for purchase, it was persistent about wanting me to chose a PERC controller card. If there is a motherboard controller, will it be adequate?

o Again, when trying to configure with UEFI boot, it indicated configuration conflicts. I'm ordering it without HDDs, but want to use an existing 4TB drive. I'll need to configure GBT and will need UEFI for that, I believe. Is this a problem?

o Anyone aware of any issues with running Windows Home Server 2011 on this platform?

They are selling the unit as diskless/OSless as the default configuration. That's fine, but I wanted to buy a couple of enterprise HDDs to go along with it. When I tried to configure the system with HDDs, that's when all the configuration conflicts came up. I'll try to call in tomorrow, but I find the community is usually more knowledgeable than the sales folks. It looks like I'll buy the unit diskless and add my own drives. Any recommendations for HDDs that are reasonably reliable (and less expensive that Dell's)? I'd like to run RAID 1.

My "adventure" is about to begin. Thanks for the help!!

Al
