To obtain tech support from Dell you need your hardware's service ID, however despite exhaustive searching on the blades and the chassis I've not yet found it on a Dell C6100, can anyone advise where I should be looking?

Need to add 12x1TB SATA drives to R420 server w/PERC H310 controller
Folks,
I currently have a Dell PowerEdge R420 server running VMware ESXi 5.5. The server has the following specs:
- 2 x Xeon E5-2440 2.4Ghz 6core
- 96GB RAM
- 2 x 300GB SAS 10k 2.5in HDDs
- 6 x 1TB SATA 7.2k 2.5in HDDs
- PERC H310 controller
I need to add 12 x 1TB 7.2k SATA 3.5in drives (already on-hand) for additional storage.
I will most likely configure drives into 2 arrays (RAID10 or RAID6) and add new drives to ESXi as new datastores. Can anyone tell me what are the supported DAS enclosures and recommended storage controller to accomplish this?

Poweredge T620 Virtual Machine
I have a Dell Poweredge T620 server that is running 2 virtual machines.
VM #1 is up and running, no problems, can access with VMware software and the programs it is running are up and working.
VM #2 does not show as running, once I go through the Control/Alt/Delete command, I reach a black screen. I can see the cursor moving, but have no visual to be able to log in or anything. I have tried rebooting the VM, I have power-cycled the entire physical machine (including disconnecting the power cord), and still cannot access this machine. This is a business critical machine, as it runs my company email and online ordering processes.
What could be causing the issue with the black screen? How can this be fixed?

R420 RAM question
Hi, the server in question is a poweredge R420, E5-2430 @2.2Ghz
Does this support 32GB LRDIMM? As in, the load-reduced quad rank dimms. According to the documentation it appears that when using two normal quad-rank RDIMM in one channel, the top operating frequency is 1066 MT/s whereas two dual-rank allows for 1300.
So, if I were to buy quad-rank LRDIMMs would they behave like dual rank?
Is it even worth it for performance? I am looking to bring the server up to about 192 GB or so.

Issues with Poweredge R810 and NUMA nodes.
We have two R810's in our Disaster Relief center for backup SQL nodes in case our office goes down. Both have 4x Xeon E7-4830's and 64GB of DDR3. One server (lets refer to it as Server A) has Node Interleaving enabled in BIOS and shows 4 NUMA nodes. Server B also has Node Interleaving enabled in BIOS, but through Powershell, the machine shows a single NUMA node and the graph mode in Task Manager shows the 'NUMA Nodes' as greyed out. Server B only allows SQL to use up to 50% of the CPU, while A can get to 100%. Any advice would be very helpful.

NTP settings R640
Hi,
We have just had delivered a new R640. I have a question about NTP.
The NTP settings have been populated the same as all our other Dell servers, but after 3 days, and resetting the DRAC it will not pick up the time from our NTP servers. The DRAC is on the same VLAN as all our other DRACs.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this from the DRAC interface.
Any ideas?

Two different RAID Virtual Disks across same physical disks
I have a PERC 6/i controller with the following disks sizes attached in this order 146, 146, 146, 146, 600, 300 GB. I was hoping to create a RAID 5 set across the first 5 disks and then use the remaining space on the 5th disk along with the 6th disk to create a RAID1 mirror. Is this possible? I tried and the PERC firmware shows that there's no remaining space on the 600 GB drive as soon as I include it in the RAID5 with the other drives. I'm wondering if I did something wrong and there's another way to configure it so that it works.

USB 3.0 driver for Windows 2008 system image restore? Powedge T420
I need assistance please with trying to get my Dell PE t420 back up and running. I am restoring from a Windows image back up (the data is on the drive and its there) Its a WD Elements external drive.
Problem is when I insert the WIndows OS disc (Server SBS2011) and then I run the "Repair computer" it will scan for a system image backup
but then I'll get the error "windows cannot find a system image on this computer"
Ive been at this for hours and I read that WIndows 2008 does not load USB3 drivers during this process and I think that may be the problem. Ive tried to install a driver (intel 3.0 usb drivers from their site) and it still doesn't work
I've updated the BIOS to 2.4.2 and updated the CHipset and still the same result. yet when I go to the command prompt its all there (data). in the root folder: c:\WindowsImageBackup
I really think it has to do with somehow getting the USB 3.o drivers installed. Can anyone assist or has anyone encountered this before?

R710 transform a 4 x 3"5 drives and flex bay
Hello,
For a DELL PowerEdge R710.
Is it possible to transform a 4 x 3"5 drives and a flex bay into a 6x3"5 drives ?
Can i replace the 4x3"5 backplane with a 6x3"5 backplane and install 6 disks ?
Or can i install 3"5 drives into the flex bay ?

Confused about how to resolve message "iDRAC6 Enterprise is unusable without iDRAC Express" with newly added iDRAC in R510 server
I have a PowerEdge R510 which had no iDRAC card installed. So I purchased a compatible iDRAC Enterprise unit and installed it, but when I boot, it says: "iDRAC6 Enterprise is unusable without iDRAC Express".
Now I am confused about this because I did the same thing with an R710 server that had no iDRAC, and I installed iDRAC enterprise card in the back of the server and it worked just fine and I can access the server and use it KVM style and all that.
On the current R510, I was able to access and configure an IP address in the BMC interface when hitting CTRL E, but was not able to access the iDRAC web interface at the configured IP address.
I don't really understand what I have to do to get this working. It doesn't make sense to install an iDRAC Express card because then I won't be able to use the iDRAC Enterprise card. This is confusing and makes no sense.

PowerEdge 2900 - LTO2 Driver and add on cards..

I have two issues:
Currently configuring a PowerEdge 2900. I am running Windows 2012 R2 (Standard). Due to my choice of using 2012, I think I may have out witted some of the old components. The machine is second hand and about 99.9% of it is fully operational and running perfectly. That .1% is related to a SCSI controller card that is currently without a driver.
I have all the original disks from 2003R2 to the drivers, including the installation disks for the machine. On having 2012R2 search the disks for the appropriate driver via update driver, no matching driver could be found. I was able by searching via the card information that is printed on the cards to determine within a small window of being wrong, I am missing the driver for the LTO2 tape drive. To confirm this information, I noticed that the there is no tape drive listed under the device manager. On visiting support.dell.com and the manufacture of the tape drive, their software packages and drivers will error out stating it found an unrecognize OS (2012R2). So basically, by having a newer OS, and not willing to put an outdated OS on the system, I am stuck with a Tape Drive that while functional, cannot be used until a driver can be found. Has anyone had this problem and how did they solve it?
The second one is related to adding a new card. I want to add a sound card. While I do not want to install the top of the line 7.1 surround sound card, I just want to add in a basic card. Thus, I now have confusion on which card will work correctly. I came across a lot of bad advice thus far from people cutting cards (stupid idea) to recommending the wrong type. Currently, all the PCI x4 and x8 are available and I have one open PCI-x slot. I know I need to find a PCIe card, but which type is my question. Any correct information would be helpful. Please point me in the right direction.

PowerEdge T20 SATA Ports
Hello,
I know that PowerEdge T20 is actually a desktop PC with low specs as server but good for its price. My question is: Why SATA ports 3 and 4 run in SATA 2 mode as Intel C226 chipset supports SATA 3 speeds for total 6 SATA ports? All four SATA ports could be running in SATA 3 speeds with no limitation.If port 1 is for boot drive (lower HDD cage) ports 3 and 4 is the only option (upper HDD cage) for RAID 1 (but this way in lower speeds).

R640 - weird error
Hi,
Can anyone pls share what the following error indicates? I don't understand it.
"Unable to access Front LED Panel because of a hardware error condition".
The error appears on the dashboard of the DRAC, under Miscellaneous, but gives no indication what hardware is in trouble. Everything seems fine on the server otherwise.

R620 PCIE training error with E5-2660v2
Hi, all Dell docs say the R620 is compatible with Xeon E5-2660v2 processors, so I updated Bios and PERC H710 mini firmwares to latest, then installed the processors. However, it insists on System Halt- PCIE Training Error: Raid controller if the H710 is installed. If I take the H710 out, it boots fine, can go into Bios settings etc. with no problem. System is also fine with the stock cpus plus H710, so I'm stumped. Any advice? Thanks!
