Poweredge 1800 Hard Drive Failure

I have a Poweredge 1800 with 6-146gb SCSI drives running Raid 5.  One of the hard drives failed and I replaced it by turning power off and replacing drive and rebooted.  On restart, I entered Configuration utility, new drive led goes from green to amber and configuration utility says drive is in failed state.  Is there a method to reboot while waiting for another drive to be delivered?

iDRAC 6 down on R610 since update

Hello,

I've tried to update my PE R610 with last firmware, Bios, etc...

I've used latest SUU version for that (downloaded on Dell website).

The update of Lifeycle Controller failed without detail on error. I've tried relaunching the update but same error.

Since that, the Services Sytem is disabled at startup, and IDRAC don't respond in time.

I've tried to rerun update for iDRAC, but on Windows the package says that the update is not compatible with my system and, on Linux, the package says that proc/s_ipmi didn't exists.

How can I push the firmware on the iDRAC card ? Is it possible ?

The card didn't ping on the IP address too (normal I think).

Must I change the motherboard ?

Thanks for your help and explanation.

Best regards,

8GB 5300F 2Rx4 in Dell Poweredge?

Hello folks, info I'm finding online is unclear.

Can anyone tell me which Dell PowerEdge servers are able to use 8GB 5300F modules, and if so is it possible for them to use dual rank 2Rx4, or do they require quad rank 4Rx4?

Info I have found so far seems to indicate the Generation 3 PowerEdge 1950/2950 can use 8GB modules, however most resellers seem to feature quad rank. If anyone could please clarify for me whether any Dell PowerEdge machines are compatible with 2Rx4 5300F 8GB I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Server shuts down

Hi

I have a PowerEdge R720, it is running two 8 core processors and 96GB RAM.

I have installed Win 2012 server on it.

The server will run, sometimes for a couple of days, then for no apparent reason will shut down. I then have to manually restart the server.

All the logs look OK, I have looked in Windows event log and also server manager, but there are no issues showing.

After reading on the web I was suspecting a PSU issue so I tried to update the firmware, but it would not accept the update and was showing as a failed update in Lifecycle control.

I then tried to update through Lifecycle control but could not get it to read the CD drive.

The server originally came with 2 PSU, but one started flashing orange so I removed it, I am now running with one PSU, if I can resolve this issue I will replace the failed one. (the server still shuts down with one PSU installed)

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Or where else could I look to see if the server is reporting an error?

Appreciate any help.

Many thanks

iDRAC7 - Blank Summary page after update to 2.30.30.30 on PowerEdge R720

Hi,

Just updated the DRAC7 firmware to 2.30.30.30 (from 2.21.21.21) on a couple of our test systems (both PowerEdge R720s). The update was performed by uploading the update (iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_JHF76_WN64_2.30.30.30_A00.EXE) to the DRAC itself.

Update appeared to complete without issues, but after the DRAC rebooted, the Server/Properties/Summary page is now blank on both test systems. All other pages load ok, and appear fully functional. Servers fully up-to-date firmware-wise.

Anyone else seeing the same issue?

TIA.

PowerEdge R805 Hard Disk replacement

I replaced the 2 mirrored HDDs on my PowerEdge R805 recently, with new set of SAS 1TB HDDs for higher volume, configured on Raid 1 (200GB for System partition; 800GB for Data partition). Afterwards, I needed to slot in the old HDDs to be able to retrieve some documents from them, but the machine did not see them. Can anybody show me how I can make the server recognise the old Hard drives? The old HDDs are of 500GB size, configured on Raid 1 (100GB for System partition; 400GB for Data partition).

Unable to ssh into idrac8 with 2.30.30.30 firmware

On R730, I upgraded idrac8 firmware from 2.21.21.21 to 2.30.30.30, and now I cannot ssh into the idrac. I get "no matching cipher found" when ssh'ing into the idrac. Rolling back the firmware to 2.21.21.21 lets me ssh into the idrac again.

Cannot log in to DRAC4 on PE2800

I have recently acquired a PE2800 and purchased and installed a DRAC4 into it. I can configure the DRAC from CTRL-D and can edit the admin user and password from CTRL-E, however I am unable to log in to the DRAC through the web interface. I get the prompt after dealing with a way out of date security cert (only IE lets me continue, both firefox and chrome do not give me any option to continue).

I have reset the drac from the BIOS interface and through OMSA on a live image, and neither one seems to allow the default username and password of root / calvin. When I look at the user list in OMSA, I see that slot 1 is grayed out and disabled, with no way to edit it. Slot 2 has root with full admin permissions, but editing it and entering any password still does not let me in through the web interface. Is this a bad card?

Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks!

HELP-Server stuck on System Recovery Options

$

Hi, I had a power outage at my office today and found everything off when I came in. When I powered on the Server PowerEdge 2008 running win small business server 2008, it took me to a page called System Recovery Options. First page is asking "Select a keyboard layout". I hit "US".

Second page shows me a window "To access recovery options, log on as a local user.

To access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account."

User name: Administrator - it's the only option it provides.

Password -- I enter the admin password I've used since we bought the server but it keeps telling me "The user name or the password is incorrect".

I cannot get around this problem. When I try to log windows normally, the system brings back to a page asking if I want to Repair (which brings to me System Recovery Options) or Start Windows Normally.

I need to get passed this page or somehow log in in Safemode if that is even an option. Can someone please help me?? and forgive me in advance if this post is the wrong place.

Also, I'm not technical in the least bit. I have very minimal knowledge of stuff- small company so I had to learn about everything. So i'm the "tech guy" among many other things. thanks everyone!

PowerEdge R720xd outputs an average noise

$

Hi There,

I've posted this thread earlier about a disk failure in my server. And now I'm waiting for the replacement disk by Dell. However, I haven't shutdown or restarted the server till there was a power cut yesterday. In the meantime, server never had such a noise earlier as it was running smoothly.

After the power cut yesterday, I have shutdown the server to make sure it get a proper power off, then switched on the server later when the power was up. I can make sure I didn't do any changes except for the disk failure. Once the server was boot up, it started to produce the loudest noise it could ever do. So, I have done another restart just to make sure that I don't miss anything. However, it started the same noise but it was average not the loudest as before.

So, I'm assuming this is because of the disk failure and the hardware or the RAID is trying to rebuild/find the failed disk... I'm not sure just assuming.. Any advise will be great.

F1 Errors

I was hoping to find out a list of what causes F1 errors on Dell servers (F1 to continue, F2 to enter Setup prompt.) I have seen a couple of questions come upon this, and there is general agreement that is indicative of a hardware error - but despite looking through documentation and the forums I am yet to find a list of what causes these.

I was hoping someone may be able to help list what errors cause a F1 prompt on startup/point me in the right direction of a list etc?

Thanks!

R710 Platform update: no updates found !

I am having troubles updating the lifecycle platform of a poweredge R710.  This is the way I went:

1.  Downloaded the Dell Repository Manager v2.1.0 (datacenter edition).

2.  Created a new repository with this content: system bundle (windows x64) PER710 v574.

3.  Exported the repository to an usb-stick with the first option: create custom catalog and save updates (full repository).

4. Started the server and pressed F10 to enter the unified server configurator.

5. Launched the platform update process and have the system searched for the usb-stick with the repository.

6. I get the message that the catalog file is not correctly authenticated, I continue.

7.  Next I get the message "No update is available.  Make sure that the windows catalog and Dell update package for Windows are used.

I don't get any further than this.  I tried to export the repository also as an SUU to folder, but this doesn't bring me any further.  I have managed to update the lifecycle controller via the idrac interface, but this didn't help me either.

Thanks for your suggestions.
